The Lubbock Family Council
The Family Council was appointed by Mayor David Miller in February 2007. Its mission is to "communicate, collaborate and coordinate the
efforts of entities involved in the prevention and intervention of teen pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases and low birth weight babies."
This group of thirty volunteers is composed of educators, physicians, nurses, students, former teen parents, single parents, faith-based leaders,
social service representatives and other concerned community members. The Family Council, with its unique abilities and perspectives, met together
over the next 18 months to address these three issues.
It is beyond the scope of this Council to either endorse or denounce an organization or its programs. Indeed, within our own Council, we have differing
views and philosophies. As always, parents as well as other adult leaders of children should make the final determination of what is appropriate to use
or not use. We simply offer this toolbox as a potential resource, allowing the users to select their choices.
Our hope is that the toolbox, as well as other resources in our community, will motivate you to become more committed to resolving the challenges that
face us. As a community and as individuals, we are dramatically impacted by these three issues—we must pledge to make a change!
